I notice when i am racing around town, or just giving motorate throttle from a stop, my truck has a hard shift from 1st into 2nd. It sounds really painful on the transmission to rev up all this RPM and power from the motor, and then slam into 2nd. Its pretty unavoidable, I dont think theres any shift kits in the tranny. Could it be a solenoid or something? I want a nice smooth shifting transmission, the tranny doesnt slip, it just shifts hard form 1st to 2nd. What might it be?
The forward drum seals have worn deep grooves in the center support causing fluid to transfer faster.
Time for a total rebuild!
I'm not kidding, before the slaming tears out either the forward or direct clutch splines and leaves you stranded!
Or worse yet, splits a planatary!
But if it's a Diesel, there is a slight chance the F.I.P.L is bad, (just changed mine out today and I'm shifting much better) but that would also cause the converter clutch to cycle and even the trans to "hunt for a gear" like it does not know if you want the trans to downshift or not.

thank you for reply. What type of labor might i be looking at to have a tranny shop fix that for me?
Anywhere from $500 to $2500 depending on the shop, and you tend to get what you pay for, but I have seen some high $$$$ trans rebuilds that were crap.
If mine cost more than it did, I would have switched to a C6 from a junk yard and rebuilt that one instead and later added an after market OD unit.
The gear vendor costs about ($2500 std long tail housing) to ($2800 short tail housing, my favorite) and add that to the junk yard parts cost to install a C6 onto my 7.3 Diesel, and it comes in around $3000 to $3500.
Then I would have a automatic (variable 3 to 6 speeds) that is stronger and much more reliable than an E4OD and is cheap as all get out to rebuild.

What if you can temporary fit the problem by removing the battery cable and resetting the (hidden fault) ? My 1994 F150 is shifting hard as if the pressure is too high. It will stop for just a short time after doing the above? Sensor??
