I need to replace all the door hinges on my 55 and have looked at several companys with Mid fiftys being my chioce so far. Any opinions ? Also what is the opinion on the hinge that is offered with the added adjusting bolt, Is it worth the x-tra $$ 20.00 each ? and has anyone used them?
I like MF, but their shipping can be slow so check back in a few days and ask for a tracking # to see if they shipped yet or not.
What does the bolt adjust? The stock hinges are pretty easy to adjust especially if you have a helper. What's wrong with your original hinges? If they are stiff or frozen, soak em in a pan of liquid wrench for a couple days then knock the pins out, preferably with a hydraulc press. Polish the pins and the bores with some fine emery paper, grease and reinstall the pins. It may take heating them cherry with a torch to get them apart if really frozen, but what do you have to lose? New pins are available as well.
The hinges are sloppy, i'm sure it's the pins. Most of the free play is noticable at the near closed position of the door. The doors are currently not in good alignment and I want a better fit. I Dont know what the x-tra adjustment bolt does I just saw that M/F offered it. I too am curious. I could rebuild the original hinges and may be inclined to do so if the aftermarket hinges are of less quality. Im just searching out my options. Are there bushings in the original hinges ? if not, are some available if the hinge body is worn ?
