I have an issue with the doors on my 55, both of them sag when opened. I've put new weatherstripping on them, and adjusted the hinges for a nice gap around. But when I open them they sag, you have to 'lift" on the handle when closing (or slam)
Is it typically the hinge pins that wear? Can i replace them, or do I have to get entirely new hinges (I'ld like to avoid that as my hinges are painted to match)
I have a similar problem on my 49 but mine sag so much the door latch doesn't even line up. I'm assuming my hinges are bent. I think they can be straightened some but I haven't checked into it yet...
Mid fifty sells door hinge pins for replacement. They are made oversize. 11/32"
You will likely have to remove the hinges from the truck to drill the holes oversize to match the new pins. Mid Fifty F-100 Parts - Home
I had been browsing the Mid-Fifty's catalog and saw those pins... that's what triggered my question... wondering if the pins are enough to fix the problem. Has anyone else used them? Or had similar issues?
Okay I'm not sure how your problem is showing up but if your latch isn't lining up correctly you might need to adjust the striker plate on the cab/door frame itself. Just a suggestion/thought but the Mid-Fifty bearclaw latch kits sure worked great on my '53 cab and I would say put the money toward those instead, unless you really into the OEM stuff.
Sorry I didn't finish my thoughts on the first pass, if the doors actually move when they are wide open and you lift up on them then it probably is that the hinges are worn. It just seems a little strange (but possible) that all four of them would be that worn out
Yes, I have replaced them on my 56. Remove the hinges, drive out the old pins (easier said than done), drill the hinge out to the size of the new pin, drive in the new pins and reinstall the hinges. It really makes a world of difference in how your doors operate and is well worth the effort. I bought my replacement hinge pins from C&G Early Ford Parts... can't remember why I didn't use Midfifty but there probably was a reason (CRS is a PITA).
I did the two hinges that were loose, and having survived that, I decided the other two were perfect. Other than that, it's just like Charlie said above.

That will depend on exactly what the problem is, and we can't tell from our house. If you simply have worn pins, then replacing them will probably work. If the holes are ovaled out, then drilling and installing the oversize pins may be necessary to cure the issue. If your problem is deeper, like broken hinges or rusty doors or cab pillar, then of course, new pins won't be much help there. You'll need to do your own investigation to figure out what is wrong, and make a repair plan accordingly.
I had my doors off a few months ago to replace the weather stripping ... doors and cab are solid, no rust that I know of, hinges all worked fine, just a bit too much "slop" in them.....I think I'm gonna order those pins and hope that works
