Question Tail light bracket dilemma

Hey guys, i just noticed that my 1966 f100 stepsides tail lights were put on in 2 ways . the left one was put on with the U shape facing up, and the right one has the U shape facing down. which way is correct? And looking at the bracket from the top down, does the bend go toward the front of the truck or the back? And does anyone know of a source where i can get custom tail lights for this truck, i hear there are flames out there but i dont know where

FYI: Chebbies are stepsides. Fords are Flaresides.

The same taillight lens was used on Flaresides from 1953 thru 1966. There are myriad custom lenses available. Some have a chrome Ford script on them, some have Blue Dots..but wait, there's more. Check with FTE sponsors listed above on the header ^^^ like Blue Oval Truck Parts, Mac's or Auto-Krafters. Free catalogs for the asking.

Confusing taillight brackets: Besides Flareside pickups, the same taillamps were used on F500 and larger trucks. In addition, the brackets are right and left if the Flareside pickup has a rear bumper. Without a rear bumper, the brackets are the same left & right. Then there's the extra bracket used for the license plate.

Suggestion: Look through the members gallery for pictures of how the brackets should be mounted.
