My truck just came back from an oil change service. Has 55000 km on it. They went through their check list of things to do & everything was Ok??? When i got home I went under the truck just to see if I could see anything. What i found was a crack infront of the oil pan on apiece of aluminum . It looks like thiers a hex key or something there as well . Nothing leaking from what i could see. It worries me that this crack wasn't noticed. I crawled under the truck & spotted it right away. they had it on a hoist & couldn't. Haven't taken it back yet their closed. Noticed it tonite. Any ideas of what it could be????? Block? Thanks PS Got a picture if i can figure out how to post it.

Sounds like it's in the front cover and it's close to the LPOP oil pressure regulator. Is it a large hex key, like 50mm? If it's definitely a crack and not a casting line I'd have it back in a New York second and make them replace it whether it's leaking or not. Cracked aluminum will only get worse and that's a really bad spot to crack. If you're out of 3/36 warranty then the most it's gonna cost you is $100 U.S. or so.

Thanks for the reply's. npccpartsman Yes your right its a 50 hex key thats the spot. What would happen if left unoticed???How can we trust dealers who don't look after their products & custers for that matter. I live in Ontario , Canada got 3 years or 60000 km warrenty plus extended powertrain 100000km. Do you think they noticed it ?? Im close to 60000km. this is a big dealership. they treat poeple like idiots.
That's a heckuva catch for anyone and not something that I would even consider looking for since there's no reason for it to crack and if not leaking why would you look??? Pat yourself on the back and don't blame your service guy. I think this is a really unusual case. I would like to see a picture. If one of our Moderators can help there it would be really kewl.
I'm going to forward this picture to Matt so he can post it since I cannot post attachments. It's a little blurry because it's so close and the camera didn't focus or my computer screen sucks, but it's definitely a crack and being so close to the oil pump relief I'd be looking to have it replaced. Aluminum cracks in high vibration applications normally just get worse.
