I think I have a cracked block. The engine ran rough and I was getting alot of white smoke out of the exhaust when it got warmed up. There are no wet spots under the truck except under the tail pipe when the engine is running.
I have the top of the engine tore down and am not seeing anything on the cylinder walls. If there is a crack is it going to be something noticable or just a hair line fracture?
I have never seen a cracked block so I am not exactly sure what to look for. The head gaskets and oil look fine. thank you for any help.
Sounds like you might have had a head gasket problem. However, the best thing to do it to have your block magnafluxed for cracks. That is the only way to tell for sure.
They are hard to see a machine shop can find it,if it is the cylinder thats cracked they can sleev it.I have had 2 350s that had to be sleeved no problems out of either one just make sure it goes to a good machine shop
start by have your heads checked good chance it will be one of them if not at least you know their good. Also it's a lot easier to get the heads to the shop than it is the block
Also look at the top of the pistons....If you have a piston that is very clean on top compared to the others, you may have a cracked head leaking antifreeze into the cylinder.
