I purchased an E4OD through a buddy from Ford ($2k) and saved about $400 on the deal. For the price and warranty (3yrs/75k), I could not pass it up. I nursed about 20k miles out of the old one after I started to have problems. What would be the benefit of running synthetic ATF if any?
Good deal on the reman, the warranty is what I like about those trannys from ford. The only advantage to syn ATF is it can take the heat without depletling the additive package as easily as dino ATF. I did a rebuild about 6 months ago and installed Syn from the biggining. To early to tell if it makes any difference or not.
The cost will be higher for me because I'm still changing it at my neurotic intervals. 15-20K. I really don;t want to drop that much dough again on another tranny & TC. The enigne gets the same treatment. I just wish I could change the rust on the body to some new metal and paint as easily as the fluids and filters.... Damn Michigan winters!
I gotcha Cuda. What about break in? Should I plan on changing the fluid sooner the first time, flush? If this were the case I would use dino the first fill and save $$$. Waddya think?
I'm no expert on trannys but I imagine that either will be OK for break in. It's a mainly a matter of cost. I think the common misconception about syn is that syn is slicker than dino and the tranny will not break-in quickly. I like the fact it can take the heat better than dino. Most new cars today are coming from the factory with all syn fluids in everything...at least the hi perf ones are anyway. It's the future.

When I got my BTS Brian had his guys flush my cooler lines and the radiator cooler, the stock cooler was replaced with a 6.0 cooler. Brian filled the tranny with Schaffer (that may not be the correct spellling) and told me to change it every 25-30k miles and if I did to just drain the pan and change filter. No worries about the TQ or lines because the existing fluid is still acceptable and will mix with the new. Makes a some what dreaded job much easier. He also replaced my 2wd pan with a stock 4wd pan that has the drain plug.
