Gas milage question.

Altitude does affect engine efficiency, so I suppose mileage would suffer. But I bet your trucks computer has lived in the thin air long enough to self adjust to run at peak efficiency and mileage.

One interesting thing about altitude is the effects on octane. I always wondered why they had 83 and 85 available in the mountains as "regular grade", 87 as "mid-grade" and 91 as "premium". You could never get anything below 87 in the flat lands I grew up in and the grades are 87 - 89 - 91. Turns out the lower octane gas acts like a higher octane gas at altitude, don't ask me why on that one. So, unless you run a chip, you never need anything higher than 87 up high.

Gas milage question.

My big 03 4x4 f350 CC V10 with 1900 miles on it so far has not got less than 11. In this cold climate of Northern IL, 11 mixed country/city say 50/50 isn't bad. I drive it very easy though. From interstate driving it back from the dealer 800 miles, I got around 12.5 at 65mph. I'm hoping in the summer to get slightly better. My only gripe is I wish I had a bigger gas tank (29 gallon). The 6-3/4' box gets the 29 gallon, the long box gets the 38 gallon. Also, seems like the exhaust is too restrictive. I'm still reading the posts about what to do.
