I just bought a 2000 F350 Crew Cab (Lariat)with 30,000 miles on it. I've been driving it for a week in and around town and have been getting 8 miles per gallon. I've noticed a number of posts where people are getting 12 miles per gallon while towing. I assume that must be on the highway. Is 8 miles per gallon average for city driving? If not what would make the truck consume more fuel than most? I havn't been driving it with a heavy foot either.
I get 10 on average but I don't carry as much weight as you are. First I would check your air filter and possibly change your fuel filter too just for a starting point.

Has a lot to do with , rear gear and tranny.
I agree with Monsta. If I reset the computer mileage and drive in town, the first few lights and accelerations really throw it off. It can take a while to get the average back to reality. If you hit a ton of lights and idle for a long time it can mean really bad mileage though, I have sat and watched it drop a few points just waiting for lights!
Mine is lighter with the SC, but I also have 4.30's and a heavy foot and still average 10-11 if computed by hand.
When I first bought my truck I could not break 10 mpg empty with a 200 mph tail wind. I went on an all out war to increase my mileage. At the time we were in the middle of a kitchen/den/bathroom renovation so spending money was not in the equation. I started keeping a detailed fuel log, brand, amount, octane type, driving conditions etc. The first thing I noticed was my truck responded different to the brands of Gas. I usually filled up at the Exxon station due to it was the easiest to get in and out of, and they had good coffee. I ran 5 tanks of gas thru my truck of 8 differnt brands under the same driving conditions. Guess what ? By far Exxon was the worse performer, followed by Shell, then BP. The best was Chevron. The brands of gas probably contributed 1.0 to 1.2 mpg. Next was the K&N air filter which added 0.5 mpg, and then switching to Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic oil which added another 0.4 mpg. Increasing tire pressure really helped by adding another 0.8 mpg. So in all I went from 9.8 mpg to 12.7mpg. If you ask other V-10er's they will tell you they get around 12.5 city driving, and maybe 14.0 to 14.5 on the highway.
If anyone tells you they are breaking 13.0 in the city, and 15.0 on the highway, Lets say they are bending the truth.
I carry four different Mobil cards, just in case a few run empty!!........count on 10.86 mpg city.......21 mpg highway....oop's, sorry ..i meant 12 mpg highway..i hate when I look in the mirror, things are always backwards!!
>no, honest! driving interstate from new orleans to victoria
>texas.no hills.i freaked out myself, checked myself again and
