It appears I blew my head gasket on my 06 F-250. What kind of cost might I be looking at for repairs?
Before my head gasket blew I got a DTC code P-1335. Can anyone help me on what that code stands for? Also it was lagging on acceleration and blowing black smoke during the lag.

p1335 EGR valve failed range test and is sticking. This is causing the black smoke and lack of power. I seriously doubt that you have a blown head gasket. If the head gasket was blown, you would get coolant loss and/or puking. A blown head gasket or leaking EGR cooler must be pressure tested to determine if either one is actually leaking.
Thanks for your response blackhat620! I was going by what the service rep told me it sounded like.
I assume that the head gasket is blown due that white smoke started pouring out of the exhaust and then the engine temperature climbed up and I got the high temp. alarm. After cooling down the the engine will start and run and sounds normal. Currently it is at the dealer for repair. Do you still think that the only problem is the EGR valve sticking?
Good information to have. Only question I have would it cause the engine to get hot. So far all of the information that I have gotten here fits the synmtoms of what happen to my truck.
So if the EGR cooler failed and leaked liquid into the crank case and the engine got hot would there be any engine damage. I did shut it down as soon as I got the high temp alarm.
The engine does still run and sounds normal but it's in the shop right now waiting on service to check it.
the egr cooler can crack internally and the coolant will enter the exhaust and steam will come out of your tail pipe, also this coolant can enter the intake of the engine and enter # 5 and 7 cylinder. now as far as coolant being in the oil, you said nothing about that but coolant can get into the oil to some degree from the cooler busting. if it is a cooler, once its replaced you should be fine.
Great Information BowTieHatr! I found pictures and coolant diagram at: www.backglass.org/duncan/ps60_manual/
From these pics and diagram I now understand and feel this is exactly what happen to my motor. Thanks again!

About the steam, will a lot come out? I've been noticing that white smoke or now that you say that it might be steam. does it always come out when truck is running or go away after a a while of running? I have noticed a little loss in power but I think it's due for my filter changes. If I disconect the egr, will it help?
Kaipo,
In my case I noticed white puffs of smoke when slowing on the freeway, after pulling off of freeway and coming to a stop it was like I was a mosquito fogger. I drove a few blocks hoping it would stop then that is when the engine got hot and I had to stop. After the engine cooled I restarted and it seemed fine but the white smoke continued to puff out. It was time for a wrecker.
You may be in the early stages. I would bet that you are close to having the same failure. One morning I noticed a pretty big white puff of smoke but it went awaydidn't figure it was anything. A week later I'm where I am now. Mine is still in the shop and they should be getting it on the rack to find the problem today.
If you have under 100k miles on your truck the engine is still under warranty and a good dealership should take care of it.
My 2005 is at the dealer now for overheating, low power, and black smoke. They are replacing the egr cooler, head gaskets and heads, and the turbo.
GregsSD,
Mine is under 100,000 miles(52,000), my only concern will they still repair it under the warranty if I was useing a Super chip. I only ran it on economy setting for better fuel mileage. Before taking it to the dealership I re-programmed it back to stock mode and it cleared all of the DTC codes which at the time were only two.(P1335 & P2663). The P2663 I'm guessing at because I don't really remember what it was. I did manage to get a new code after running it for a few minutes after going back to stock mode(P1000). I'm hoping that it won't be detected that I had the Super chip and that the warranty should cover it.
I had no problem with my dealer on the headgasket and EGR cooler. My dealership sells the super chip stuff in the Parts department. I wouldn't offer up the Super Chip use unless specifically asked. My Service Mangager told me that the problem on the 06 Headgaskets was a faulty torque sequence at the factory and that replacing it once should solve it for life. I would suggest asking for the EGR cooler to be replaced at the same time. Again, my service manager suggested that doing both would be better than doing one at a time. My cost under warrenty. $0 Good luck and hope it works out ok. rc
