i just had a question about my friends 460. It was rebuilt by his dad about 10 years ago and sat until my firend put it into his truck. He has a edelbrock 600cfm on it and the problem is if you put the throttle more than half way down the truck will studder and stall. My friend thinks that it is the carb because it is too small for what he thinks his 460 is the biggest motor in the world and will eat the carb, but i told him no because you guys run these carbs and have no problems. what do you guys think.
I believe he has gunked up secondaries and needs a carb kit. The sputtering/studdering/stalling is caused by a lean fuel mixture. It probably wouldn't hurt to squirt some gum out down onto the metering rods and check for free movement.
I mean a rebuild kit. It is possible that carb is too lean for your application, however, most of them were set up to run on stock rigs from the get-go and if someone else hasn't modified it, it should work fine after the rebuild kit.
well i just talked to my friend. and he told me that he had to take the intake off because of an oil leak and i guess the timing was way off and the carb spacer was the wrong kind and didnt allow the secondaries to open all the way. But he told me after that the truck was a hole new truck and could burn the tires off on cement (before it wouldnt even turn the tires over in dirt).
