Congrats on taking on this repair.
One thing to remember when using ATV sealant is that you need to have the mating surfaces cleaned and oil free or it won't stick. Especially the oil free part. The let it cure for a minumum of 24 hours before starting the engine. 48 would be better.
alright, i might have a problem, maybe not i dont know. When i read the forums last night i thought it said rtv sealant, so i went out and bought 1/16 cork gasket material, and blue gasket maker and made some gaskets for the plentum, and gasket makered the heck out of it. Both sides i coated with gasket maker and the plentums, and then put the gasket i made on. Will that be okay?
and one more question, what do i need to change over to a 99.5+ turbo system. I someone has a deailed list, i can call around to the auto wreckers and see if i can fins everything, i hope the plentums are the same.

new up pipes with top flanges, babies butt, turbo, pedistal, plenums, spider pipe and boots...
that is a bit of stuff, i think id be better off leaving the stocker in for now. And do you think i should rip those gaskets i made out of there or will they be okay? I did a good job making them.......if that counts for anything, maybe i will do a psi test on the plentums and crank it to 45 psi and see if it will hold?
well.....if ron has a doubt, i will rip them out and do it proper. There is no need to start experimenting now. I will go to the dealership and get the proper silicone and the rest of the parts i need.
I commend your initiative and would almost say try the gasket, but have to say yank it off and do it right. You have everything off staring at you, so fix it now because you will be fixing it later. Eliminate that potential boost leak now so you don't have to revisit it.
What does bbunting and others do to contain that high boost on thier pulling trucks?
I don't know Dan. I would just hate to see him have to tear it down again. If a gasket will work, I may put one in mine to increase the area there. Any insight? Anyone? Good question.
I would like to see a good spacer/gasket to increase the volume there instead of getting a bigger plenum.
okay, i am getting ready for bed and i cant sleep.........thinking about my truck again. Should, since i got the darn turbo on the table, should i get a aftermarket turbo??????????????????????????????????
How do the early 99 turbos rate to the late 99 turbos. How much can i do with a stocker??? how many psi??? I dont know what to do.
Either i go buy a new turbo, or put my old one in. Are the early ones any good?
and one more quick question, should i be the test dummy for the gasket idea???? i kind of would like to know, or should i just put it normal? Just throwing it on the table
I say fix the plenum with the proper RTV and be done with it. Put the stock turbo back on and run it. It has a wheel that is the equivalent of the wicked wheel so drive on. Definately fix the up pipe leaks and you will be running much better. After that, if you want to upgrade the turbo, Ron has given you the parts list.
I would say do the fixes and make sure the engine is healthy, then upgrade the turbo if you feel it's necessary. Again, get the plenums sealed and installed, up-pipe leaks fixed, and see how the boost responds.
