fatazz....I don't recall any major packages available...it was pick your cab size, pick your bed length, pick your engine and tranny, pick your tonnage, pick your trim level (XLT etc) and then head on down the options list. As I showed there were minor packages for lighting etc. The dealers would buy loaded-up trucks to sell off the lot, but I ordered mine.....
I've told the story before, but....
The salesman (here in TX) told me I wouldn't be able to pull anything with a 4OD and 3.08. Truck has pulled plenty of stuff (but its forte is high gas mileage and utility), the truck's still running..... salesman? ......oh he's long time dead.
Then there's the clearance lights. NOBODY had clearance lights on an F150 in '83, but I wanted em. The factory put the larger lug wrench for the 8-lugs under the hood, thinking the truck was a 1-ton! I fooled ya, I fooled ya, I got 1/2 ton!
srercrc.....i would imagine that a large percentage of trucks are the loaded-up dealer lot picks and mine is probably one of them, but the guy who picked this one out must not have liked it or couldn't aford it because he sold it to my sister less than a year later. thats why i don't know the whole history of the truck. then the rich little girl wouldn't drive the darn thing --- oohh, thats too big ----- i couldn't believe it, so it went to storage for over ten years. but about your 6/stick, you got the best, i have given thought to the change-over on my truck. i have driven plenty of them, known lots of guys who have them, we all like em, strong set-up, plus better mileage. i have two trucks and to get that better mileage i drive the 87 ranger. you know that wanna-be-truck. it like a pinto with a pick-up bed on it. it gets the mileage and it will atleast haul the groceries bags home, not much on comfort though, i'm a big guy and i like a bit more space than the ranger has. my whole family thinks i'm nuts because i'm in love with my fatazz dually and they all like the little ranger.
