does anyone know what the first year was that ford offered the lariat package?
i have an 81 that has had all the badges and nameplates stripped off, and always wondered if it was an XLT or a Lariat. i know that for a long time XLT was top of the line, and then around the year of my truck ford changed the name of there best to Lariat. by the way it's a standard cab dually if it makes any difference (wouldn't think so),it has all the bells and whistles, so ya can tell it was their best. i just don't know if i should call it a XLT or a Lariat.
Contrary to popular belief, when you went to XLT you didn't get a boatload of options.
You got alot of side trim, tailgate trim, deluxe steering wheel, nice cloth and vinyl seats, wall to wall carpeting, door pockets, simulated wood grain interior, headliner, and probably some minor stuff.
When I bought my XLT I still had a page-full of optional equipment. The XLT option cost me about $500 in '83, which was about 6% more.
saw your truck, steve, pretty nice. especialy the six/stick. wish my truck had that. i've got the well known boat achor (400) . by the way, about posting on FTE, where do find the option to add the link to photobucket? it has been suggested that i post my pics there and then add the link, wasn't sure how to that link into my post.

You can click on User CP (top left) then edit Gallery and put your photos there. Then anyone can click your user name and see them.
I was thinking that the Lariat was a special marketing edition in 1977. Came in one color (gingerbread brown?)that year. But I did see another of the same year (I'm going by the single round headlights under the turn signals, and grill guys, so don't shoot me) that was white with the same pinstripes.
Then they made it the top model for the following year???
thanks guys -- enlighting, i didn't realize it was that early. now i know for a fact, it could be either, still don't know what to call it.
I forgot the original question. Sorry I got caught up with the how old part. I had an 82. It had all the XLT equipment except the fabric on the interior door panels and the stainless on the tailgate. Badges everwhere. I got it used as a one year old off a used Pontiac lot. Seems something of a Texas Oklahome SE in 82. And the first owner pulled off the TX-OK badges, if any, and replaced them with XLT badges!!! Anyone can buy badges. What if anything does the sticker have for info? Wouldn't that tell you better?
hey Jonas1022, your response has opened up a new path of thought for me. if anyone has a scan of a new truck window sticker from 81 it would have the options listed if it was XLT or Lariat. then i could compare it to how my truck is equip. my truck has no stickers except for the one on radiator support (tuning) and door jamb (vin.). also, can you tell me more about a " TX-OK " badge. is it something that Texas/Oklahoma law requires or is it something the dealer puts on for advertising. or maybe there is a city named Texas,Oklahoma, i've been to New York,Texas before.
In 81, top of the line was the Ranger Lariat, but, there wasn't anything on a Ranger Lariat other than the badge and maybe a tape stripe that you couldn't order on a Custom, and there was still a pretty good options list to be had on the Lariat.

good stuff, 82f00swb, i gonna keep it. i've got pics of my truck when it was bran-new, and i've tried more than once to post them. even tried to create a gallery, but have failed on all attempts. i know that if these pics could be seen by all, someone could probably id it. i've been cruzin the net and using countless websites for over ten years now, i'm no stranger to this stuff, but there is something about FTE that i can't get by. i must be mjssing something somewhere. you would think it would be a little more user friendly considering there is probably more mechanics here than computer geeks. i keep at it and someday figure it out and post the pics. by the way, i didn't buy the truck new - my brother in law did, and i took the pics, thats why i have pics of it when it was new.
You would enjoy obtaining an 81 F150 sales brochure, lots of pics and detail....theyre on ebay.
The 83 program was virtually identical to the 81. Heres an old post of mine regarding my 83, shows options I paid for on my XLT. If it's an option, it was not included in the XLT trim-out. Not sure it will help you. Nowadays, the window stickers sometimes say :this model includes the following options", I don't think Ford did that.
They just said this is an XLT and now lets add to that...
Quote:
I bought (and ordered) mine brand new I'll even specify the list price....'83 Supercab w/ 8 ft bed 9332, XLT trim 534, 4 speed overdrive 283, 3.08 rear axle N/C, convenience group (wider inside mirror, pulse wipers, headlight-on buzzer, and vanity mirror) 87, light group (underhood, cargo, glovebox, ashtray, underdash, and overhead map) 119, air conditioning 734, super cooling radiator 86, dual fuel tanks 220, dash gauges 38,tinted glass 56, overhead clearance lights 48, upgraded "western" mirrors 84, deluxe paint (two-tone blue on white) 223, AM FM Stereo cassette 205, rear bench seat 316, cruise control 185, tilt steering wheel 110, sliding rear window 75, locking gas caps 50, heavy duty rear bumper 80...total $12,865. I since have added front bumper guards, chrome spoke wheels, electronic tach/clock, floor mats, rear seat lift kit, and side window stainless vents. Now, I ask you....why would I want to buy a new truck?
I believe that the instrument and dash trim could not be optioned up on a Custom Cab to the XL,XLT, Lariat style. The Custom trim in my 82 wasn't and the door panels were an improved version of the standard Custom trim, but not by any means something out of the higher level models. Something that my middle aged mind at the time failed to notice till after I owned the truck for a couple months and saw an actual XLT interior. My truck had a black steering wheel and column. The more deluxe models had them color matched to the interior. My options included power windows, door locks, steering, brakes, cruise, no tilt, AM/FM cassette stereo, tinted windows, A/C, heavy duty trailer towing, trailer wired at the factory, chrome bumpers, grill insert, upper and lower trim moldings, four tone paint scheme, bed rails with adjustable tie downs, argent style wheels, three speed C-6 automatic, I-6 300 cid engine, 2.73 rear, heavy duty cooling, heavy duty trans cooling package, block heater, dual batteries, camper package (curious since it was a F-100!), deluxe seat fabric, and I am sure that I am missing something. That is just from memory. I would assume the same was true other years.
Texas-Oklahoma Editions are what Ford or Ford's regional sales office puts together every year for the Number one sales region in the US. It's a package of deluxe trim pieces that make the truck a little more dressed up like the XLT and or Lariat packages. They do however have the lower level interior. I have since seen it called by other names and have different options in other parts of the US.

srercrcr, i've seen your truck once before, i remember i liked the 6 w/ stick. allround nice truck, yeah why would ya want a new one. i can't show you (arggggh) but i can tell you it has two tone blue & white paint. the area that looks gray in your ( sides ) pics is a huge white decal on mine w/ roof and rear cab pillar painted white. rest of truck is blue. got the 400 w/ auto and 410 or 411 rear. did see the tag once but can't remember.got none of the convenience light group except for the under hood w/ cord retractor. no pulse wipers or headlight buzzer. the cab does have lots of cloth and carpet everywhere lots of insulation, real sound tight cab, like sitting in a learjet (i used to build them). does have a/c, super cooling rad., dual tanks, gauges w/ factory tach, am/fm/cass./cb(factory), cruise, tilt, tinted glass, cab clearence lights, rear slider, swing away mirrors w/ additional extenders(factory), heavy rear bumper w/ resse(probablty after market ?) no power windows or locks. chrome bud style wheels, don't know if they are factory. i wonder if this is a factory package offering by ford or if someone ordered a truck with a lot of the special things he wanted. what da ya think?
