I am attemping to install the Glow Plug Relay Modification as per Guzzles mod page...http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/s_gpr.html: I did not see any where the year of PSD he worked on in the article. I ordered the Glow Plug Relay, received it and went to install it last night. Well, I ran into a problem. My PSD is a 99 SD. On the side of the OEM GPR there is a brass strap that connects to one post of the relay down to two other terminals. I assume this acts like a shunt and is part of the monitoring system. When I removed the OEM GPR, This strap assembly would not fit on the new GPR. Has anyone done this mod and had this same problem and what did you do to resolve it?
I contacted Mouser and they will accept the GPR back, which is good.
Does anyone have a part #, source to upgrade the OEM GPR? Do I then settle for OEM, Napa, Schucks, Autozone Etc?
all califorina trucks and all excursions use a glow plug controller (for emissions i think) and it is different than the plain relay. did you buy your truck new in nevada? i think the GP controller has that shunt on it, thats what made me think of that
so it could have easily been sold new in california. i dont know what would happen if you didnt use it. i know the system is different but dont know much about it. at the least it would probably through some codes
I think you're right. The computer did throw a 1395 code which is a glow plug monitor fault. I plan on changing out the GPR and glow plugs before winter sets in. I'd like to have more info on this shunt if I can find it. If anyones else knows...pass it on.
Thanks for your replies
