1) What is the preferred brake controller for my 94.5? Static or adjustable?
2) Where do I install it? I ws told that there "should" be some dort of connector under my dash for it and to jsut get a pig tail and wire it in, yet looking under the dash I could nopt readily see it. If it is a jsut a splic and plug system I can certainly take care of that myself with a little solder and shrink tube, but if it's not then what is entailed in this?
Aha..ok...well, that connector is not there..however, there is another harness there with 5 wires that I am thinking may already be wired to a controller, however if there is a controller then it is under that dash somewhere. Is there such a thing as a non adjustable controller?
Wires are red blue yellow white blk. Looks to be 10-12 gauge by the insulation diameter. The guy who owned this before me had a full 12,000 lb hitch cyctem isntalled to haul heavy loads.
Thats just what is baffling me. The wires go into the connector and out the other side, but I cannot see where to. I see a tag underneath that has a tag with wording on it (an address as I see my state on it) so I am asusming it is jsut a black box kind of thing. Unfortunately, I am very inexperienced with this so might ahve to take it in somewhere and have them look for me. I jsut hate to pay for that if I don't have to.
C00n I like the location of the CB. Is that an after market black insert around it or is it the factory ashtray housing? Heavy eyes HUH? I guess she went to sleep.
Ok, as I went out to take a pic I realized the assembly I saw dangling was the vacum line cluster for the climate controls, so ALAS the trailer brake connector was missing. Upon installing a controller today (I got a tekanosha P3) we found tha damm stereo installer place had pushed the dam thing way up in the dash, so...it was hidden!!.
Thank you all for your help, and especially for the pictures!!
you are most welcome.
neal, that is the ashtray housing, all i did was pull the tray out and remove the 2 tracks(2 phillips on each side i think) the cb is a uniden bearcat from wallyworld-$40, it fits in place as you see it with no mounts, perfect fit. has never rattled or squeeked or even popped out while offroading
Don't get the cheap time based controllers. They don't measure how much you're stopping and adjust the electric brakes accordingly. Speaking from experience on my old truck. I got one and hated it.
If you're hauling a heavy trailer I recommend the prodigy. The regular accelerometer type can get confused while going slow down steep hills. It will assume you're braking hard and max out the trailer brakes.
