I have a 95 F350 dually that has a cracked left front brake rotor. This rotor is one big piece that includes the entire wheel hub. Is the outside bearing screwed on and does it have left hand threads? Do I need a special wrench to get it off, if its screwed on? How tight do I torque the new wheel assembly when I put it back together? The rotor cost $169 from Autozone. Anyone know where I can get it cheaper?
autozone or advance would be the cheapest parts prices. as for the replacement, its not bad to do. you have to remove your 3 torx nuts for the hub, remove the lock ring inside, pull the guts out, you will then need a hub socket, available from either of the 2 stores, pull the 1st nut, spacer, 2nd nut and snap ring. then pull the whole hub off, drive the 8 wheel studs out and the rotor comes off.......simple huh?! its really not that bad
Lowcan, I just replaced my brakes on the front of my truck. After you put the hub assembly back on the spindle with inner and outer bearings, use your spanner wrench to torque the outer (small) bearing so its snug and seats the inner bearing and dust cap on the spindle shoulder. Then back off on the lock nut about a 1/4 turn. Then you can install the washer and outer lock nut. Not sure of the torque on the outer nut, but you don't have to stand on the wrench or anything extreme.
