So it seems no one makes a 66 tailgate replacement.
Is this true?
Mine is rusted through in lots of places some major dents and a big tear all the way through where the hinge is on the drivers side. So it needs massive work to make useable.
Any ideas out there on what to do or where to buy one?
Is yours a flareside (stepside) or styleside (wide bed)?
MAR-K has the flareside tailgates available for 53-72 Short Flaresides in the original script or custom options as well - smooth, no latch, louvres.
I don't know of anyone that makes the styleside tailgates.
Hope that helps.

Of course, try a company that advertises here first. But if you don't have any luck there you could try LMC Truck. They have one listed for 64-72 for $500 for the styleside and $190-$440 for the flareside that are listed as fitting 57-72. I don't know if they are 100% correct for your truck and I can't comment on the quality since I've never ordered from them before. If they carry them then there are probably others that do as well. You could also try National Parts Depot. Good luck!
In 1967, Ford replaced the 1964/66 tailgate with >>
>> 1967/72 = C7TZ-9940700-A
The lettering on the 1967/72 tailgates is smaller and of a slighty different style. The 1967/72 tailgates have a raised scallop line that surrounds the letters.
Fellow members: Please be aware of the FTE sponsors that pay good money to advertise here.
Several like BLUE OVAL TRUCK PARTS, MAC'S AND AUTO-KRAFTERS sponsor this very forum.
Mentioning lmc without mentioning FTE sponsors is unfair.
I found a 66 tailgate that was real rusty, but the center panel is cherry. I cut the center out, and welded it into a 72 gate. Same with the stiffener in the upper portion of the gate. I now have the correct tailgate for my truck. Cost $25, and a few hours work.

See......I didn't forget the sponsors, Bill.
Actually, there was a little poke at LMC in this one as well. But you are right, we should try to help the ones that help us by givin g them the first shot at providing what we need.
Well I see no reason to pay up wards of 20 percent more for parts from the mentioned suppliers who will only drop ship it, when i can purchase them direct. If i want that i would buy from NPD and get free shipping on orders over 300 dead washingtons.
I guess i should go out and buy that new Chevy that this site had on banner adds too? Seeing as there a sponsor this logic would hold.
No one is sponsoring me. And I wouldn't take pay even if it was offered. Once pay is taken, an obligation is the result. The "hobby" then becomes a job, no fun anymore.

I guess that means I can't make you an offer that you can't refuse...
