Does anyone know if I can check the ICM on my 1994 302 in my F150 to see if it is actually working?
Put a test light on the TACH side of the coil and see if it flashes while you crank the engine. If it flashes it is good.
By the way the ICM for your truck should be black and if it is gray it will not work right. If it is not Black go to a Ford dealer and get one, the Auto Parts stores will only argue with you and try to tell you that it should be Gray. Do not believe them.
What Color Is Your Icm?i Had A 1351 Code On My 1996.i Had Replace The Old One With A New Grey One From Auto Zone That They Told Me Was The Only One For It 10 Months Later Found A New Black One And 500 Dollars From A Shop That Couldn;t Fix It.i Put It On And No More Code
What is the ICM ?
ignition controle mudule? what does it do?
ICM is the Ignition Control Module. It grounds the TACH side of the Ignition Coil to cause the magnetic field around the Coil to collapse and cut through the secondary windings and this will cause a hi voltage that jumps across the spark plug gap.
If the ICM does not get any information from the PCM it does this on a set dwell and at the set base timing.
If it gets information from the PCM (SPOUT) it will adjust the timing off of base timing.
If it is a CCD system (black ICM) it will also change the Dwell but not on the Push-Start system (gray ICM).
and if its not working what symptons would it cuase ? ( im asking allot of question becuase im chasing a miss that my truck has when it turns operating temp )

The ICM should not cause a miss.
When it quits working the engine will die or not start.
Sometimes you may get a backfire or a pop but not a miss in the normal sense of a miss.
A miss is usually only on one cylinder.
A miss usually is caused by:
A bad plug or a plug gaped too wide.
Spark plug wires arcing.
Sticky valve.
Low compression.
Bad injector.
Hello y'all I have a 94 extended cab f150 I bought about 2yrs ago. I've been reading a lot on it to keep it up. I think I may have the wrong ICM onit from everything I've read mine should be Black. I have a code 212 and when I drive for a while it's sometimes hard to start. Also with engine running my voltage meter slightly moves back and forth when in drive with foot on brake but not in park. Would the wrong ICM cause any of these problems. As the my pic shows someone put a gray one on it back in 2014 truck
as help greatly appreciated.
