what flash was it? there are two flashes, and one can be a problem.
What do you mean two flashes????
I received the "inductive heating" flash and all updates in the Spring and lost 2 mpg. Truck runs fines and seems to be bullet proof, but my mileage dropped as soon as it was flashed. I thought that maybe the ULSD fuel maybe caused it.. or some of it anyways.
I was always told by you and VLoney that a flash either takes or it does not. Upon watching my tech do it... no codes and he let it idle to relearn the "at idle/EGR closed" strategy.
Is there a new flash or what is the "problem flash"???
03s and early 04s have the flash that can cause issues because it makes the truck more sensitive in general. late 04s and up has the other flash. all trucks have the inductive heating strategy, but its the rest of the program that can cause issues.

OK... I have a 2003 (built March 2003) Excursion.
How do I know if I have a good or defective PCM/TCM strategy???
What do I ask for or say to my 6.0L dealer tech. Since I am past 100,000 miles, it would have to be "on the side".
Is there a service bulletin to advise techs about this issue???
I have asked that before also, how do we know what flash is installed?
With the information that comes up in the ODO display in test mode, there are some values for ROM version and such. Will one of these identify what the flash level is (maybe through a secret decoder ring...).

I've been using the 06E17 program, which disable the EBP sensor, on my build date 1-2-03 for about 6-months, and for the most part I'm satisfied.
This was not by my choice, but since I live in Kalifornea, it was mandated by the DMV, otherwise they would not re-regester my truck.
The EBP is now "inferred" based on: MAF, MAP, BARO and EOT. So if any of these sensors fail or have intermitten issues there's bound to be problems.
The program also cylces the EVRT during idle to reduce the sticking vane issue.
I would pay to have my original program back. The truck has never been the same since these mandatory flashes.

No, but it can be used by engineering to determine what software level is in the instrument cluster. It has NO relation to the PCM.
Pay who? The tools that the dealer has can only put the latest flash on the PCM/TCM. It can't go back.
If there's someone out there that saved the program before the dealer flashed the PCM then that said someone would be able to re-flash the PCM with the OEM program.
This is a commom feature on most of the tuners out there were you can revert back to the exsisting program.
Perhaps Matt has this program?
