I don't see many postings on irate owners about Ford routinely flashing their PCM without first asking the owner. I've lost 3 mpg, and now have to listen to my injectors cycle for 30 secs on shut down. And they say they can't reverse the Flash. Anyone know of a way to Flash the PCM back to original?
That cost of 3mpg came at the benefit of increased drivability and a much more reliable vehicle. The newest flash (while at a loss of fuel economy- thank the goverment for it having to meet stricter emissions standards) is damn nearly flawless, with pretty much all software issues addressed and corrected. I'm sure I will hear the standard "but there wasn't anything wrong with my truck" speil, but just because you don't hear or see anything doesn't mean that the old software revisions didn't have issues that could cause more serious hardware concerns down the road (and potentially out of warranty- correspondingly out of your pocket). The injector cycling has PROVEN to help correct lazy injectors on cold start and WILL improve the drivability of the truck for the first few minutes upon startup.
Along with the injector issues, the older TEC-series flashes (TEC0, TEC1, 2, 3, 4, and 5) did not have sufficient turbocharger duty cycle to hold the neccessary backpressure at idle to prevent coking nor the correct amount of injection pressure at low throttle to fully atomize the fuel- both of these will lead to future issues of a sticky/slow VGT, coked EGR valve and a very very nasty intake manifold and runners. The added ICP results in more power (I hear alot of people say they lost power- the dyno says otherwise) and much cleaner exhaust.
BTW, the computer can be restored to an older calibration with aftermarket equipment, but doing so would not be in your best interest.

I have yet to have anyone complain to me about fuel economy loss with that flash. Are you sure it's not just coincidental with the weather getting colder?
There are more than one on here that has complained. Since I got the recall flash, I lost power and mpg. I too have lost around 3 mpg, from 15 down to 12 in the city. It takes more rpm to get the same boost, so naturally I would assume I am using more fuel. I tried the battery disconnect/relearn procedure. I was just out at the dealer on Sat. to find the lastest oil leak and again complained. They admitted they have had a few owners complain, but have not found out what the problem is. One 6.0 owner in the waiting room described the 6.0 like this...."they are like snowflakes, no two are the same". He has an April 03 and has absolutely no problems until he was towing and blew that big tube off.
I also got the great news I have a bed plate leak. I will just live with it until something much more major happens. I dreamed of owning a truck like this for years. Two oil leaks and one flash later, I only hope I can make the 8+ hr. drive from LA to Tahoe and back for New Years without a problem.

They will fix it sure, they have 8 diesel techs ready to work. I am just not that ready for the whole truck body to be lifted off the frame to do it, or be without the truck for 3 to 5 days. Maybe after the holidays. At the moment, a drip or two a day isn't important. I had the leak checked out to make sure it was not injector related before my trip.
There seems like so much to learn about owning a diesel. I really appreciate the info in the forum. I have been very happy with my 06 but it is coming up on the 15000 check and was wondering if they automatically do the flash? Sounds like the flash is a good thing that can go bad depending on the truck.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. So what am I thankful for?.....my extended warranty.
