2004 Navigator Dry Start

When my truck sits for several days or more and its started the lifters are very noisey. Is this normal? And the next question is does the oil filter supposed to have a anti drain valve to prevent this from occuring?

If you use a Motorcraft filter it should get pressure almost immediately. You sure it isn't an exhaust manifold leak? They often sound like ticking till they warm up and expand. Inspect for broken studs at the heads.

Me too

My 00 gator does the same thing. My bro-in-law 98 gator has been doing the same thing for over 200,000 so I don't think it is hurting the engine.

The sound does disappear after a couple of seconds. I wanted to be sure if the noise was a indication of a repair needed or was this normal. Since the noise does disappear after 2 seconds then it has to be oil related. The owners manual calls for 5w-20, I use 5w-30.
