starting problem

Howdy. I'm having a problem with my '88 4WD F-150, and since I can't find a similar problem in the archives, I thought I'd solicit some advice here. Essentially it's a starting problem. Over the past several weeks the neutral safety switch has been getting harder and harder to close by pressing the clutch (when I'm starting it up). I REALLY have to mash the clutch down to get the starter going. I don't know if it's the switch itself or maybe it's the clutch that's going bad. I bought the truck used and don't know if I have an original clutch (118 kmiles). Shifting is never a problem, it's just hard to get the thing to crank. Fluid levels are OK. Got any ideas? Does anyone know where the neutral safety switch is? Couldn't find it in my Chilton's. I would like to know where the little bugger is just so that I had the option of bypassing it; this could conceivably keep me from getting stuck out in the middle of nowhere. A final question: why do you suppose Ford made it necessary to press in the clutch even with the transmission in neutral in order to start the truck? Seems crazy to me.

The switch is located on your pedel arm under the dash. It doesn't care what shape your clutch is in. It works solely off of pedel movement and therefore probably worn out. Not expensive and easy to change.
