The AOD was used in the Broncos from 1985 through 1990.
The AOD was used in the F100, F150 and some F250's depending on the engine selected, starting in 1981 and ending in 1990.
The AOD was used in the E100, E150 and some E250's depending on the engine selected, starting in 1983 and ending in 1990.
The C6 was used in the F100, F150 on up (ancient days of the 1960's) through 1990.
Either the C6 or the AOD could be ordered in the F and E series trucks from 1981 to 1990 depending on the buyer and the engine selected as the AOD was not available with the F250 Diesel, but was when it was ordered with the 5.0 or the 4.9 straight 6 cylinder.
However, the C6 could have been ordered in fleet sales of 50 or more vehicles for quite a few years after the dealerships no longer offered them to the general public, heck, for all we know, they still might offer it.
The E4OD started being used in 1989 through today.
The salesman from FORD (a factory sale and not a dealer sale) that sold me my 1983 F150 new said that the F150 was a heavy half to get around some emission control and MPG requirements. He said that the lower rated 83 F100 were for the most part Computer Controlled and did not have a frame as heavy as the F150. In other words the F150 had a higher GVWR than the F100. The F150 also had heavier springs than the F100.
Thats interesting. It sounds familiar too maybe you or someone else posted something about that in a different thread that I read. Anyway, always good to know little bits of info like that. Thanks subford.
