Hey fellows, truck in question is the 96 F150 in my signature.
Theres a black toggle switch mounted under the dash, i have no idea what it does.
It looks to be factory installed, theres two wires running off it, a blue wire that has a inline fuse, this blue wire is connected to another wire using a scotch lock type thing. Theres also a black wire that runs off the switch, this wire goes into a firewall hole near the throttle cable.
The switch itself cannot be seen from the driver seat, I have to lay on the floor and reach up under the dash to touch it.
Like I said I have no idea what it is, or does. I dont think it was something done by the original owner, he didn't install or modify anything on this truck. I've included a couple pictures below, if anyone has any ideas I'd like to hear them.
Just trace the wires. I have never seen any switches mounted under the dash of any vehicle from the factory, that would be pretty strange; not to mention I have seen that switch at Kragen before. Being a 2-position switch means its probably a kill switch for one of the components in the truck. Possibly a starter kill switch? TCC lockup switch? Turn the truck off, flip the switch, and try to start it back up. But again, easiest way to find out is to trace the wire through the fire wall, report back here with the wire color or component that it taps into and we can go from there.
did it had an after market ignition system on it? becuase that would be the anti teft swith.. my brother had one from his jacob ignition.. he put it under the dash to
If thats a kill switch it sure does scream look at me to the thief... I was thinking maybe a amp or CD changer that got powered to a constant hot and added a switch instead of finding the right wire? Just guessing here
does or did your truck have any aftermerket AUX lights? i know someone who wired his spotlights into a similar spot under the dash rather than the more typical style.

Thats exactly what it was, looks like it had fog lights at one time. I just spent a good half hour tracing wires, the black wire I spoke of ends up down by the bumper, it has the quick connect plugs like my current fog lights have. He had the wire routed perfectly under the hood, I'd never noticed it before.
Seems like a odd place to mount a switch since you have to reach up under the dash to access it. It was a very nice install job thats why I figured it looked factory, looks much nicer then some of my hack jobs.
Now I'm a little ticked off, I spent a entire afternoon running wires for my current fog light setup, when the hard part was already done.
By the way I pulled the inline fuse out, I couldn't tell what was on and off on the switch.
