i have a 2000 psd with 175000 miles, i hooked a pressure gauge to the back of the hpop, to check the pressure ,i got about 500 psi at idle, and i revved it to 2000 rpm. and got about 1200 psi, if you could help me,on what the pressures should be, i am having a problem with engine running rough when it is warm, i have already had the injectors and harneses checked out , and the were good, any information would be greatly appreciated, this has been a hard problem to fix, thanks
It takes 500 psi to make the truck run when cranking. Does this truck have any mods, chip? You will not see max pressure by just reving the engine. The pcm needs to see the inputs under a load to increase the pressure. A good hpop will maintain 3000+- at wide open throttle in high gear.
Also might want to look at cleaning the ebp tube and sensor. Did this last weekend ( had to form a new tube from brake line, cause mine had a few holes in it) but my idle has smoothed out considerably.
shouldnt stay much over 3k, hpop is designed to dump at 4 for safeguard, plus your oil will break down at sustained loads over 3k. chipped trucks will get up there but a stocker probably wont se it much
Get on the freeway with your gauge OUTSIDE the truck. Duct tape it to the windshield or something so you can see it. Now from a dead stop, put your foot to the floor and dont let up until your at about 90MPH. What was your highest pressure?
Another way is to find someone with a GOOD scan tool like auto-enginuity, basically any scanner than can read engine sensor in live data. Do the test and look at pressure and duty cycle.
