My 2003 EXPY EB is hard to start when the engine is warm. When the engine is cold, it starts on the first turn of the ignition. When the engine is warm it takes two or three turns of the ingnition to start the engine. If the issue was with the fuel filter, I would think the engine would be tough to start cold and warm. Any idea on what may be wrong with my fuel system?
PLease post what you find out. I've got exactly the same problem. My mechanic brother-in-law thought it might be the IAC valve. If I crank once without it starting, then pump on the accelerator pedal and crank again, it will usually (but not always) start. We've noticed turning off the AC sometimes helps too.
I'll let you know if the IAC change helps or not. I hope to do that within the next week.
Well, I replaced the IAC and it didn't make a difference. There was a waste of $81. The next suggestion I got was maybe the crank position sensor. I don't know. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!
I cant get it to start when it sits in the sun, on an 80+degree day. im thinking the temp on the hood of the car is atleast 100. it takes a few turns and pumping the gas to get it to go. fuel filter just replaced 3k miles ago, air filter at 4k.
The problem may be the fuel pump. I had a similar problem on my 03 expedition, there was some kind of problem with a check valve that stops gas from going back into the tank was not working. Once the pump was replaced it has not happened since.
