Check engine light.... running on 4 cly's?

Hey guys, I haven't been on here for months how has everyone been? Sorry for the lack of participation just been a crazy summer with work. I've had my computer on maybe two times over the last 4 monts..

So... New Problems with the rig.. The other day on my way home my check engine Light came on in the middle of an intersection while making a left and the truck barley had enough power to make it across. It sounded like crap and felt like I was only running on four cly's. I shut the truck off and restarted. Everything seems fine now. Has anyone had this happen?

My truck also ROMP's when started hot or cold... could all this be related to an HPOP issue? i'm also leaking oil (rear main?) lately. There's a place called Mass Diesel in Walpole ma where i'm thinking about taking my truck to get it worked on because I don't have the knowlage to diagnose an issue like this. I'm just trying to get some input to weather i should get mine fixed or start looking for a new truck.

The truck has also lost alot of power over the last few months and I have a feeling the Trans is on the way out too.

Any thoughts or oppinions anyone wants to throw my way would be more than appreciated. Thanks guys!

Robb

The oil leak is probably coming from the valley. Maybe the turbo pedestal o-rings. As far as cutting out it sounds like the CPS. Could possibly be IDM or UVC harness. Not sure about the Romp. Others will be by soon. BTW Welcome back home.

Once you read the codes you will probably get IDM codes that point to the UVCH's...

A cheap test is to pull the covers & look ....

what has been previously stated as well as the IDM itself is a possibility, they like to fill up with water and will start to randomly poop, or sometimes die indefinatly.

i recommend having someone steam clean the engine, and run it a week or so and you will be able to see exactly where the oil leak is.

fix it, dont buy new.

sounds just like mine last week. don't know about the romp issue. mine was gradually loosing power too as i look back over the last month or so. i also thought my tranny was acting up at one point, stop at a light and go again felt like the truck was stuck in 3rd or 4th, but it was actually an engine issue. check the uvc harnesses like custom said. tj posted the ohm numbers in the my thread above.

Hey guys, sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I'm back at school and clas work is already starting to pile up. I dropped my truck off at massdiesel in walpole, ma and have let them chip away at it. the Oil leak was a high pressure oil line plug that was leaking into the valley like you had mentioned. the other issue did turn out to be the IDM. After swapping out a new one the truck came back to life (so i'm told... picking the truck up on friday) I;m having them check out my wheel bearings while it's in too and we'll see how that goes to. If all goes well i'll go home this weekend and pick it up. Thank you for all your responces and i'll let you know how things go

Well not sure where i was when this first came up but anyway. Glad to hear the dropping put is fixed. Does it still romp? if you so you probably need a new transmission range sensor. they go bad and cause a hot and cold romp.

the TRS is on the side of the tranny bolted in place under the shift lever. For some reason it malfunctions some how and makes the loping idle. Every truck (except my own) that has had a lope idle has been fixed with a new TRS. Its pretty cheap (less than $50, some said $30 at autozone) and about a 10 minute job if you have to get out from under the truck to get tools. All you need is a 13 or 15mm (can't remember which) and I think a 10mm socket or wrench and a flat blade screw driver.

truck in neutral with wheels blocked. Pry the shift cable off the shift lever, undue the nut that holds the lever one. pop the lever off. remove the two bolts that hold the sensor on. pop the sensor off, place the old sensor on the shaft and line up the grooves then reinstall everything. I would reinstall the sensor and then manually place the shift lever in park then start the truck to verify the fix. then reinstall everything else.

Make sure you atleast pull all of the vc plugs at the gasket and check for any of them burnt. Your problem may just pop back up again, may not. Try that IDM they pulled out in another truck make sure it acts up in another truck before dismissing it as popped.

agreed, idm's arent the normal cause for this concern, definatly ask them for the codes they got to condem it, it sounds more like uvc's then an idm but as stated anything is possible

tjbeggs, i'm picking the truck up this friday and i'll see if it still has the Romp romp issue. thank you for posting the while fix, i would have been scrambling to get it so i can get it fixed. I don't have much time to work on my truck while i'm up at school, but that sounds like something i could do in the parking-lot if need be. Thanks for all you posts guys, i appreciate all the help! I'll give you an up-date on monday when i get back up here to school

Talking Update!!!

Ok, so i got my truck back from MassDiesel on Friday AND!
It Feels like a brand New Truck! They replaced the IDM and the power came right back up, they sold me a modded 140 Volt used one for 300 bucks and fixed the oil leak. Leak turned out to be 2 of the plugs in the HPO Rail. New Tires up front fixed the front end vibration i was having at 75+.

The new IDM also seemed to clear up the ROMP ROMP i was getting.
Thanks again guys for your help. Very happy with the work done there very professional and easy to deal with.

Great to have my truck back!
