hey i was just wondering if it is possible to switch over a 87-95 front clip onto a 81 pickup, my neighbour 81 rolled down a hill and into a tree so i extra parts from my 88 kicking around still, the cab styles look the same, but if i could get fenders to fit i could hack up a hood if they are wider...? but yeah its a idea and just wanted to throw it out there and see if anyone has done this before or if it is even possible
well thanks for reading and dont forget to put in a comment of what you think or any tips or helpful information about this or possibly something else i could do
my brother-in-law is supposed to be mister ford truck salvage man of the county here, iknow he has more trucks than a dealer, been doing it for 20 years, so i value his exper.--he has told me many times that if i wanted to i could make my 81 standard cab dually look like a mid 90's because all the doghouses from those years are interchangable. a few wiring items under the hood. i have never done it, but thats what he says.
you will need to change the fenders, hood, grill/radiator support. to go to an 87-91, and you will have to change these parts plus the cowl for a 92-96. it's a bolt on affair if you change all the components together. the bumper is the real obstacle. the 87-91 and 92-96 are mounted differently than the 80-86. they also wrap around the sides where the 80-86 is straight across. the 92-96 front clip also bulges out farther in the front. the different front ends may not work with the 80-86 bumper.
i'm not really worried about bumper, the frotn of the frame were the bumper bolts to got a little bent, it looked like the bumper got smashed in pretty good for it to just fall off haha but yeah i already have the hood and front valance, i've talked to people about rad supports and you can just modify them to work, so all i pretty much need is any rad support that i can make to work and some fenders
one day i'll get some pics of my truck loaded up. i took a wrecked 95, and a rusted out 83 and combined the 2. but what i did was the opposite of most. i used my 95 frame and cab and put my 83 front clip on it. i cut the front lower part of the fenders off so that i could use the wrap around 95 bumper.
also, i don't know when the change was made, but the lower bolt for the fenders that's down by the door of the cab changes from going in horizontally to vertically. i had to bend that mounting tab to make it bolt up.

That sounds pretty cool, I used L-brackets to deal with those fender tabs.
