I think my water pump is on its way out. I've been doing some searching around here and it sounds like a lot of you have gold coolant and many of you have switched to the red coolant.
I've got the Green, and I searched all around wally world for the right kind of coolant without luck. I did see the final charge, which I remembered was mentioned several times here, but thats red. Can I get the green at wally or Napa? If so, what is it called there?
I think the green coolant you need to check the SCA's ( supplimental additives ) and the red you dont need to. You can run the green but alot of the members here have switched because of the additive deal. Might just want to do a complete change and go to the red also.
I might switch down the road, but I'm pretty broke right now and I don't mind adding the SCAs. I just want to fix the major problem of the water pump for now since I might be moving soon. But I am a little low on coolant right now since its been leaking and need to add some more.
I have to take it to a place to get the water pump replaced as my living situation doesn't allow me to do it myself.
I wouldnt even add any coolant until you get the water pump changed. Then when the shop does the pump they will add the right amount of coolant I would hope. Can you just take the truck to a friends house and change the pump? 550 is alot are you taking it to the dealer?
I don't have any friends here. I just moved here in January and I don't really know anyone. I have some tools but no where to work on anything and this truck is my only vehicle right now so I can't really have it out of commission.
It makes me sick to pay that much when I know I could get it so much cheaper but there's no way I could replace it on my own.
No I didn't take it to a dealer, just a local garage. I guess most of the charge is for labor but then they said it would only take 2.5 hrs, so I dunno...
They are going to fill it up with the green coolant when they are done so I guess I don't need to buy any. I was just curious what it was called in case I ever needed to get some from wally world or anything. Hopefully I won't have any issues for a while now though...
Just be sure to get the anti-cavitation additive and add it in the proper ratio. It's very important.
Look in your owner's manual. There is the Ford spec number for the coolant. Make SURE that the shop puts back ONLY stuff that has this spec number on the jug. It's also very important.
