I have a pretty much stock truck. I have a tymar intake and full flow exhaust. The only power enhacer is the 10K mod. I was towing this weekend and cruising along at 70-75 mph I hit my limit on egt's a couple of times. I think it mostly happened on hills, but I didn't think that was normal on stock trucks. Now I'm worried about putting a chip on it? Is all this normal on a stock truck? Do they really get this hot without a chip. I was only puilling five thousand max. Thanks
My gauge is installed pre turbo. Going 70-75 mph I think the rpms were between 1500 and 2000 rpms in overdrive. The egt level was 1200 degrees on hills. That is were it starts to go in to the red danger zone.
yeah, thats about right.......whats the 10K mod and CCV mod?
I would throw in an intercooler, that'll help cool the intake charge and it wont need as much fuel, but in the meantime (if you can) turn down your fuel until you find out whats up
I have similiar mods and I did the same thing a week ago. My thermo is post turbo and I hit (00-950 easy in the smokies pulling about 5000. I do believe it is the 10K mod. I think I am going to wire a switch in mine to turn it off in the hills.
Nighthawk285 check out this site, save it it has alot of useful info.
i am going to hit radioshack for an 18k potentiometer to wire in and install on the dash for an adjustable on the fly oil pressure, the lowest i have here is a 0-42000 ohm, i think thats a bit much
you confused me with the 5 k for power? the more resistance the higher the oil pressure to your injectors
correction.... the less resistance, the more power. i just put in a 5.6k resistor in mine the other day and noticed quite a difference over the 10k resistor. after reading this i'm worried about my egt's since i'm running the 5.6k all the time now. i might be going back to the 10k
Be sure to have pyro especially over 10K. I pulled 5K with a 10K and that is all I can do without worrying about temps thru the mountains. If you go more weight or less than 10K have gauges.
Strokin is right less resistance more power and heat!!!
the more resistance the more power, hence the 10k, it has more lag the more resistance you add because the pcm is dumping more fuel when you give it throttle, the chips do the same thing, they give higher oil pressures, advanced injector timing, and a few other things, thats why the 10k mod isnt as noticeable if you already have a chip installed because your injectors are already at ther max poential
