My 97 350cc 2wd left rear wheel was locking up today, (brakes dragging badly) I pulled the drum off and saw and smelt the burning. Did not notice anything unusual. The ebrake cable is operating normally from what I can tell. I turned the adjusted deal in so that the drum would go on easier than it came off, sprayed some brake cleaner over the whole set up. Drove the truck and it seems fine. Has anybody experienced this before?
Ebrake cable stuck, from your previous post.
You should stick with 1 post for the same problem. We'll get you though it.
Have you worked on the brakes lately?
The shoes may be sticking. How hard was it to remove the drum, did you un-adjust the shoes to get it off? The backing plate can be worn enough to hold onto the shoes when they are applied. Check the contact points for grooves then apply a thin coat of brake grease to them.
Thanks for info,,,,, The drum was very difficult to get off. I had to turn the adjuster way in and slowly beat it with a hammer. I checked the temps of the exterior of drums after an 8 mile trip to work today,,, the problem wheels drum was 40 degrees higher than the other drum. Something is sticking. I will check for grooves tonight after work.I have owned this truck for the last 1500 miles and from what I can tell no recent brake drum work. Not sure on long shoe at the rear,,, will check that also,,, I was planning on spraying wd40 on springs etc,,,, is that ok?
If you spray ANY kind of lubricant don't over do it and never get it on the drum or pads as you probably know. youu may want to wipe up any excess to prevent it from dripping any where it doesn' need to be.
Like neal said go lightly with the wd40. The same goes for the rub point on the backing plate, a little goes along way. Be sure to use a high temp grease (brake grease)
