rusty drums

rusty drums

have a 99 ranger pickup from up north the salt did a number on brake drums i am unable to turn star wheel at all. the drums will not come off any ideas

If they are rusted to the axel, you may have to use a torch and heat around the center to make it come loose. Use a large screwdriver around the outside while heating around the center.

the drums are loose but i guess they have a little lip inside that will not allow the drum to slip over shoes. i cannot turn the star wheel at all it is rusted up. thought about loosening bleeder valve and pryng on drums to see if shoes will go in.

For this problem i just cut the head off of the shoe retaining pins.

Not a bad idea, I used to just pry them off and let the springs fly! Hopefully you know how it all goes back together, not real hard since it is a Bendix system that been around since like what the 50's?
