First -- my apologies....I have 4 fords but couldn't pass up a deal on a '76 Chevy 1ton with 350 4bbl and thought someone on this forum might be able to help me.
I just rebuilt my Rochester Quadrojet -- I beleive I did a decent job on the rebuild, but upon reinstalling in the truck I have problems. Gas is pumping in but the truck will not start. I messed up the linkage on the "choke side" of the carb and I think the lower flaps are not opening and the gas is just pouring out the top of the carb.
Does anyone have a diagram showing what the lower linkage should like like? If you look at the side of the carb, this is also not the linkage attached with the upper screw but the lower area that is held by a screw and spring combo.....I've gotten all out of whack.
I have both Fords and Chevys, but the stock carbs get tossed promptly for Holleys, which I get cheap/free from folks who don't want to rebuild or tune 'em.
The Q-jets go to my demented friend who likes them, and the Motorcrafts help fill whatever is going to the crusher.
Fuel spewing out the top is typically a stuck or misadjusted float, or stuck needle valve.

Funny but I am the opposite. I've had very good luck with Qjets. Have a friend that his girlfriends vette has 3 holley's in the trunk and he just returned a new holley that was defective and got another that looks as bad as the one he returned. Holley might be better for performance, but for everyday use my Qjets have been almost flawless.

Interesting. I'm too cheap to buy new ones, so I just collect cores and rebuild them. If Holley has quality control problems that is a shame.
