what is this???

It is located directly underneath the intake manifold...I am assuming it is just a trap to stop coolant etc from going into your block?? My question is where do I get another one/are they necessary? Thanks guys!

This is commonly referred to as a valley pan, but this is the first one I've seen where the intake gaskets were built into it. Besides sealing the lift gallery it also keeps your intake manifold cooler.

all 351m and 400 engine have this, it is the gasket, any parts store will have it just ask for a 351m intake manifold gasket.

Something about the shape of the intake ports don't fit a 351M 400....that's why I thought 390 352 428 FE stuff. Also it's putting water into the intake...does a 351M 400 351C put water into the intake?

351M 400 351C have a nice oval intake ports unlike that gasket.

I'm sticking with a 390........what say the rest of you guys.............

You are correct, after reading your post i looked in my book on building FE and FT engines ( by Steve Christ) and it didn't show anything on valley pans.
I did notice that the heat cross over in the center of gasket did not match any of the FE heads.
So i'm not sure, i am thinking by the shape of the ports maybe 351w or 302, but i have'nt ever seen them on the small block.

Yes, look at the port shape...definitely 302/351W, I'd say the latter by the width but I can't tell for sure. Never seen one on one of these engines before, might be something aftermarket.

Not 351C/M/400 or FE...

I have seen them on 351C's and 460's. It appears to be a 351W. Felpro makes them and the gaskets are attached on the last one I bought for my 460.
