steering box identification
I have a 71 F-750 ramp truck that needs a little work on the steering. I am trying to identify what steering box is in the truck so I can either fix it myself or find a shop to do it. There is a number on the side of the box, Hydrapower HF542998. It is power steering.
My father did an engine swap 4 years ago and I'm not sure if he changed the steering to. What other info can I give you. thanks,
Dave

Other info on the door plate in order if it helps: 25500 182 3800 130424,
Thanks very much,
Dave
Could you also list the AXLE code? It will be on the same plate. Your truck was ordered special (DSO = 130424) by the original owner from the NY District Sales Zone. It was assembled in KY. 25,500 lbs is the GVWR. 182 HP @ 3800 RPM. The engine is a 361.
Steering box ID numbers: D0TA-3N503-A or D0TA-3N503-C
Parts catalog sez: the original gearbox is a Ross. It will be marked with either ID number listed above.

I actually found half of the truck specification sheet and the numbers visible under steering gear were: DOTA-3N, and Ross HF-5. So with that I will assume it's a DOTA-3N503, and HF-542998 which is the number on the steering gear.
Any idea where i can get all the missing info on the spec sheet. Thanks again,
Dave
Could you help me identify a steering box? It's tag says SPA CE 78 H 9 0
the side of he main casting says RF-D7TC 3550 - AB
I'm putting it on a 75 250 4x (replacing the power assist set up) and need to get a pitman arm and drag link to fit. Everyone keeps asking me what this PS box came out of.
Thanks - Steven

D8TZ3304B .. Draglink / Obsolete / Fits: 1978/79 F250 4WD & 1979 F350 4WD.

D7TZ3590C .. Pitman Arm / Marked: D7TA-GA / Obsolete
Fits: 1978/79 F150 4WD Super Cab only / 1977 F250 4WD from serial number Y20,001 (not a High Boy) / 1978/79 F250 4WD / 1979 F350 4WD.
The Pitman Arm will work, dunno about the draglink.
I found 39 NOS draglinks at Ford Dealers/obsolete parts vendors, but no one has the Pitman Arm.

My 75 is a good ole already lifted a bit highboy, so I'll measure and see if a drop pitman will fit between bottom of frame and top of front end of leaf spring. After I get a pitman arm, I think I can measure what I'll need in a drag link. At least that's my thinking right now.
There's pictures of a real nice looking job by bucks77ford at https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-steering.html
Thank you again.
