Hi all! Been a long-time lurker, but since I haven't owned a truck for a several years, I didn't bother to join.
I changed my mind yesterday when I got my newest toy home: a 1964 F100. It's a rusty old thing, but takes a pretty good pic:
Anyway, it's got a 292 and 3 on the tree. Supposedly less than 12,000 miles on engine rebuild. Runs strong and doesn't smoke. Loud FlowMasters. I'm loving it so far!
It got stuck in first gear on the way home after stopping for gas. I searched the site and found more than 500 hits for "stuck in gear." So I know there's a wealth of info here. But not sure where to start...
I'm hoping it's something to do with the linkage. Clutch seems OK and it shifted fine - until it didn't.
Here's under the hood:
Somebody cut off the crossover pipe and welded the ends closed. And I think that little bitty breather will have to go. I think it's pretty stock, otherwise, but what do I know?
looks good from the pix... Reminds me of the one my father and I rebuilt back when I was an early teenager. Of course ours was a real rust bucket when we got it. Those trucks take to early model 302's and 289's beautifully.

Thanks! The previous owner had planned to swap in a 302 and AT but never got around to it. I'm not sure my mechanical abilities would be up for something like that, though.
However; it does have a hole where someone had it rigged for a floor shifter at one time...
Welcome ACE, nice to have you join in.
Congrats on your new toy, the 1964 shortbox looks sweet and a very pretty color. If it runs strong and doesn't smoke I would leave it as is, the Y-Block is a real neat motor especially with the FlowMasters. I would love it so too!
You will find all kinds of info on how to here on FTE.
