I just received a 1970 f 100 as a gift from a family whos owner had passed away several ago. The truck was well maintained and the engine ( 360 ) was rebuilt shortly before he passed away. The truck had not been run for 4 years . (on occasion). I started it and drove it home which was about 20 miles.---- It ran fine---- . The next day, I started it and was on my way to have the tires replaced, when it started to rattle on the upper end. sounded like lifters were dry. I had it hauled home and after checking it out I found three push rods were bent. Two pretty bad and one slightly out of round. Can anyone help me out here? (stuck valves ?)
Congrats on your neat ride, it`s quite a nice gift!
I`ve found it to be common for FE engines to have push rods bend when the valves temporarily stick on guides. After I`ve replaced the push rods it`s usually fine unless it`s really bad. read your letter with much interest. I really appreciate the help you passed on. I am not all that up on fords , but did assume that the valves were envolved somehow. I was concerned that there might be damage beyond the push rods. While it was running with the rattle going on, It didn't appear there was anything going on beyond that. thanks again.
