It can be drilled and tapped, just don't overtighten or it might strip out. One way to strengthen it is to slip a short piece of thinwall brass tubing (available at most hobby stores in 1' lengths in a wide range of sizes) over the original boss then fill it with the JB. If you don't have the right size tap coat the threads of a bolt with a thin coat of grease and put it into the uncured JB. Allow to cure overnight before removing the bolt. Those emblems come up regularly on ebay, I didn't pay anywhere near 100.00 for the set I bought.
I tried the JB Weld and it didn't hold-I think there is too much radial torque even without really tightening the nut on very tight. I am going to take the emblems to a machinist I know and see if he can figure something out.
did you give it enough cure time? even tho it hardens in minutes it doesn't develop full strength for 24 hrs. I used it to make a special adjusting tool for our racing shocks by gluing a screwdriver bit into a faucet handle. I even turned some screws with it and it has never let go in 5 years.
Yeah I let it cure over 24 hours. I took the emblems to a machinist and he said that he didn't they were fixable. So I'm going to bite the bullet and look for some new ones. Thanks for the input
Thanks but I found some on ebay and already purchased them. I'm trying to get her all gussied up for a "show" next week. Four Thursday nights in August they close the street in town and regular folks get to show off their stuff to the masses. Mines still beat up and has a nice patina but I've been told that's popular now.
I ordered some new Ford 100 emblems for my truck, flat black rat-rod theme, and those new shiny emblems were jusy too bright to use, so I built up the 2-sided tape with 3 layers on my 56,used the old emblems, 3 months in the hot Florida sun have not loosened them at all, I think they are there for the long haul.
