I have a 2004 F150 Lariat which I bought new and, of course, it's out of warranty. Two days ago, I noticed my climate control instrument lights,( and ONLY the climate control lights, all the other instrument lights were fine) were blinking on and off even though it was not being used at the time. I turned on the system to see if it was working, and the blower cycles on and off too, so basically, I have no heat, cool, or defrosters right now.
What also seems strange is that those lights are dimmed with the same dimmer as the rest of the instrument lights, yet nothing else is affected by the blinking (this is just an observationn not really part of the question, but I would like to know how this can happen).
Has anybody had this problem, and what was the solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Almost sounds like a bad ground, or maybe a shorted wire. I'd pull the dash apart and check all harnesses that go into the EATC console. Maybe get a test light and test your ground and power pins...see what happens.
The problem is that electrical issues are very tough to track down in a vehicle as complex as today's trucks...and they are veery expensive to have a shop do it.
Thanks Crazy. I took the dash apart and checked all the wiring and connections in that system and could find no problems. I gave up and put it all back together thinking I'd have to pay someone to fix it, and now everything works again! Either the control only needed to be powered down and reset, or I'll be buying a new one fairly soon.....
I was thinking like you (about it being a short) but I've heard that some resistors could cause this problem and I had hoped somebody knew which one to look for. As it is, mabye I'll never have to do anything else about this, but that's not the way my luck usually runs!
Do you have the moveable pedals option? What I didn't know until I had no heat or defrost was every time my wife adjusted the pedals, and I adjusted them back, it was chafing the wire harness for the EATC. Took it to the dealer to fix under warranty and they replaced the wiring harness. Works great.
I do have the adjustable pedals but the wiring on my truck is located about 3" away and there is no abraiding there. It does seem that the control just needed "rebooted", as strange as that may seem.
I work with medical equipment and the same happens to these things more often then you would think.
