My New Engine Stand
Did you ever figure out what was wrong with the engine?
As for the engine, where do I start? I was originally just wanting to visually verify the timing marks on the cam and crank by removing the front cover. What I didn't know until I had the front of the engine apart is that the Pan has to come off to remove the front cover. So, out comes the motor. Again.
So while it is all apart, I took my radiator and intercooler down to be cleaned and flushed. My fan had some cracks in it, so I got a new fan. Also bought a new bigger trans cooler in addition to the two I already have.
The engine. Swamps Diesel, being awesome like they are and trying to help me figure this out, sent me some new rebuilt 275cc extrude Hone injectors to Make sure my injectors are not an issue, or fuel. While the pan was off, I was taking a good look at everything and noticed a lobe on the camshaft had a good .020 groove cut into it from one of the roller lifters. WTF? So now the cam has to come out and be replaced. No problem, I have a spare blown enigne in storage. Go tear it apart on my OLD engine stand, pull the cam, and same thing, on a different lobe. WTFWTFWTF???? Call Ford, they wanted $650 for a new Cam, without gear. I told the guy excuse me for a second while his girlfriend gets off my lap cuz I think I heard him wrong. Still $650. International was only slightly less proud at 560. Called Swamps, they didn't have any. Called Diesel Innovations, and David says, yeah, I have a leftover custome grind cam from a guy's build who ran out of money for $350. Cool, Can I have it by tomorrow? So while waiting, I decided it was a good time to install the new bellows pipes from International. Also discovered that the alignment was off on my Gen3 pump gear by .10 causing it to chowder my OEM HPOP gear. Pulled my spare gear from the other motor, and had to do some grinding on the Gen3 gear to be able to set the proper depth.
And what the hell, while it was out, I did some flow testing on the fuel rails, checking for pressure drop, and total fuel volume through the 1/8"npt ports. That will be posted later.
On the plus side, My Flywheel was in perfect shape after having broke 3 of those in the past. And, the whole reason for tearing into the motor, the timing gear was set correctly. Hopefully a little later today I will find out whether or not I will be going to The Woodburn Truck races next weekend, Where I won 1st last year

It is a nice dang stand, though! I had a cheap-o when I worked on my 351W. It worked, but I doubt it would stand up to our hulk of an engine.
