Let me start off by saying I love my ford truck. I've got a 99 f150 X-cab but I got the small 4.2 V6 Engine. To help this out a little I'm looking at getting an aftermarket performance chip and dual exaust. I've already got a K@N installed. Can anybody give me some advise on cheap ways to get better pick up, without harming my truck severly or sinking tons of money into it? Also, anybody know what kind of price tag I'm looking at for a modifiation like this?
bc- how much power are you looking for? The 4.2 is on the small side for a full size truck. I'm running a 390, which I think would equate to about 6.5 liters, and I think thats about the minimum size I would consider. How much can you spend? Is this a daily driver, a towing truck, what do you have in mind? DF
BC.forget the dauls exhaust, just a waste of Bucks. Get youself a good cat back system like gibson,or pace setter.youll get just as much hp as with dauls.and the only thing that might give you the kick you want is a blower. But thats big bucks. anyway good luck...Redeye P.S. remember that no matter how many cyliders you have only one pulse at a time goes thru the muffler.
I know I can't get something for nothing. My daddy taught me that young. I was originally going to get the V8 but at the time I bought the truck I was living in Southern California and gas prices were soaring above two dollars a gallon, I paid as high as 2.70, and basic math tells us that 25 X 2.50 = a hell load of money. I'm in Nashville now where gas is about the same as everywhere else and I'm wishing I had gotten the V8, but I didn't. Plus the 17MPG isn't too bad to have. So a cat back system is the way to go? Any body think I should get the performance chip or not? Will adding the cat back give me noticable pickup, or just a slight ammount. Anything else I can do, common fellas ~ help this rookie out...
