odometer: 89k or 189k?

Is there a way to tell how many times an odometer has rolled over? (ie gone past 99k and started over)

i have a truck with "low mileage" and i just want to make sure that it does not have one or two hundred thousand miles more than i think on it..

Mine reads to 999,999.9. I've got 277,000 on it. You didn't mention what year your's was. I think the older mechanical ones the numbers wouldn't line up right after it turned over 100,000 miles.

I'm curious what truck you have. '87-'91 read to 99,999.9 and '92-'96 go to 399,999.9. If you watch while the PCM boots at start-up you can see that the upper-left section of the left-most digit is missing, so it can't make a '4' (nor 5,6,8 and 9).

it's an '89 so it only has the five digit odometer.

F250 7.3 5spd in case you care.

and i don't think the numbers line up... uh oh..

I don't think going by how the numbers align will tell you anything. The alignment of the numbers changes constantly as the larger numbers get closer to rolling over. Once they roll over, all the numbers line up again.

You really can't go by the alignment of the numbers. Although, if the odometer has been tampered with, I understand there are marks that show up across the numbers horizontally to indicate that. Never seen one with them myself, so I can only go by what I have been told.
