Differential Noise

Since I bought the truck last Sept. I have noticed a weird ticking/clicking noise under moderate to hard braking coming from underneath the rear of the truck. At first I thought it was the brakes or rotors. I had all 4 rotors turned and refinished and bought 4 sets of Wagner brake pads for each corner.

That didnt solve the problem. So I asked around and some said it might be coming from the differential. Well, last winter I noticed that my Trac-lok rearend wasnt working very well and noticed a considerable amount of uncontrolled wheel spin on the right side followed by a racheting noise inside the differential.

Today I went and bought some Friction Modifier at Ford today and 3 qts of Royal Purple 75w-140 gear oil and changed out the fluid. The old fluid looked fine to me. I also didnt notice any unusual gear wear or metal chunks or shavings in the bottom.

I just finished the fluid change and have not driven it yet so I hope that fixes the problem. I also noticed I have 3.55's and not 3.73's!!!

changing the rear end lube when 6 years old is a good idea. i cant see it helping your noise tho. limit slip clutch noise normally happens when turning. one hwell runs faster than the other... hopefully the bearings needed a good flush and new lube and it will hel?

The clutch packs probably needs to be replaced. I just did mine. It wasn't too hard.

mine will make that "clicking" noise whenever only one wheel spins, i think it has something to do with the clutches being worn out and slipping(i also changed my rear end fluid not too long ago) It has done this ever since i bought my truck.
Where did you buy your clutches at and for how much.

It's a dealer only part. And they are around 160$ to 180$. I also replaced my gear set with the packs since my spider gears were chewed up and leaking tube seals since the axles were out. The whole job cost around 350$ with the clutch packs, gears, seals and fluid. And about 4-5 hours.
