I'm going to be changing the fluid in both axles on my truck and I was wondering what brands you guys use. I'm considering Royal Purple given it's what I use in my bike and makes a very good motor oil. Also my front axle makes noise. Not really a grinding but kinda a tapping. I know a lot of 4x4's make noise like this but I also know a lot of them don't. I'm thinking it just needs the fluid replaced, well I know it needs to be replaced but any other thoughts?
Go with either motorcraft or mobil 1 ( full synthetic ). If you use motorcraft , make sure you
add 8 oz.(10.25 rear end) 4oz. ( 8.8 and 9.75) of friction modifier to the rear. 75/140 Rear. 75/90 Front. Mobil 1 doesn't require the modifier.
ok which is better? I use my truck pretty harshly. I mean I pull trees out with it. and drive it quiet a bit so I want to use the best stuff that I can
I'm not an expert. I don't think you can go wrong with what came in it.
Motorcraft. That being said, I have mobil 1 in mine, only because I couldn't find motorcraft the day I changed it.
