I have a line on a '79 F100 from craigslist. I would like to take the disc brakes and the 302 out of it and put it into my '66. The FAQ on the disc brake swap says to use '74 parts. Is this a rule, or are they just the easiest? Also, is there a ton of modification to swap a 240 I six to the 302?
Thanks in advance
Noob
PS Is there a market for '79 parts? If I buy the truck, I would like to part it out and sell the rest.
73 thru 79 are virtually the same brake parts, But I am ahead of myself. Consider putting your 66 sheetmetal body on the 79 F-100 chassis and save yourself the grief of transferring all those parts from one to the other.
You will end up with basically what I have, a 66 body on a 79 chassis with all the 79 goodies and non of the 66 hassles. . . . I have PDB, and P/S and Sway Bars, and 31 Spline 9" rear and. . . . . . get the idea?
It is virtually a bolt up deal except for the bed which will require the mounting holes be tweaked to fit the wider better 79 chassis.
Suggest run search, topic has come up on number of occasions, or check out the 'engine swap' forum. There are a number of FTE member's who's threads I bookmark for future referrences and FBp is one of them. I made the upgrade before I found the FTE forum. I have 65 F100 w/ the 302 and the T18 4speed and used the 302 engine flywheel, and found a set of 302 engine perches. If decide to go this route, and you have a clutch, the threads in the block for the clutch pivot ball may not be same as threads on the clutch pivot ball itself. Suggest confirm, tapping can be pain in backside once engine is installed. I rethreaded the clutch pivot ball rather than tap the threads in the engine, to cheap to pick up pivot ball for the V8. With regards to the disc. brakes, took the parts needed off a 76, suggest going thru and replace king pins and/or bushings before installing.
65-79 cab to front clip are identical, 65-72 identical end to end, 73-79 different behind the cab mount. If this truck that you are looking at has a good chassis/frame buy it and use it providing same bed length. Long for long, short for short.
