i finally got the thing out it was the v-band clamp that thing is on there good so i got it off now im wanting to open it up but i dont know what end to start off at ... should i take of the four bolts to the housing or the seven bolts that hold the other side on????
Seven bolts on the compressor side first. Everything kind of comes off in a pretty easy way after that. You'll have to remove the compressor wheel - it's just threaded on the end of the shaft - to get to the bolts that hold the backplate on. Once the backplate is off, you'll see how much easier it is to get to the bolts holding the exhaust housing on. Those bolts on the exhaust side are probably frozen on there pretty good. You might put some PB Blaster on there and let it sit overnight.
Also, if you're going to tear into it, you may as well order up a rebuild kit and put it back together with some fresh parts.
is this what the kit should come with or is it missing something important?

That's the correct kit. The metal plate at the top of the picture I don't think should be there though. There's part like that on our turbos. I don't know why it's in the picture.
Here are some pics from the inside still not sure how to get the shaft out... and i found a place localy that goes buy Central Florida Diesel Injection and i should have the kit bye tommorow afternoon about $110 for the kit the place on ebay takes 3days to arrive for $5 bucks less.

That's way too oily for a normal turbo. I hope the up-pipes (back at the v-band clamp) are clean before they enter the turbo housing.
PM me your number and a good time to call you. I can walk you through the turbo R&R, but it would be easier to do talking than typing.
In the mean time, once the compressor wheel is out, the exhaust wheel and shaft just pop out of the exhaust side. If you take the center section and hold it securly over a board with the compressor side facing down, and pop the shaft on the board, the whole wheel/shaft assembly should come right out.
well the up pipes to were the v-band clamp goes was dry jus the portion were it exits the exhaust was oily as u can see in the pictures ...
well i should have the kit by 12pm tommorow if i cant get the guy that sells me the kit to put it back together for a decent price i will go ahead and try myself i will go ahead and PM you my number and see what happens
Have you gotten any more input from your mechanic friend? It wouldn't hurt to have him swing by to maybe help you out.
Don't feel bad, it's not only the stealerships that do that. I had a 96 250 at work that the local garage said needed a new motor. I found a deal at the local small town ford house on a new diesel so I told them to order one in and I'd bring the truck down. The dealer called back 2 days later and said that the truck just needed a new sensor and turbo. The motor was fine.
It's not the company they work for, it's the quality of the mechanic.
yeah he has ...but again he doesnt always have to much time on his hands plus he told me he has never rebuilt a turbo before ... he laughed but he told me when something like that goes bad the dealer usually sells the whole turbo to the customer i should also mention he is not an old diesel tech just a few years into his profesion...and soon as i get the tubo back together we will be running a compression test just to make sure nothing is wrong one thing he noticed was i was getting a lot of blow by but not sure what could be causing it but like i said we will run some tests once i get the turbo problem fixed ...
And your right f350-6 its not nessicarly who they work for but the mechanic they are and i can tell you there are shady mechanics everywere i dont know one person that hasnt been hustled out of their money for a part that wasnt worth what was claimed or an item that didnt need repairing ... but it still **** me off
John, I think it's an all-inclusive kit, to cover both the OBS and Super Duty turbos. IIRC, the big round o-ring is not used on our turbos either. The rest of the parts are there though to rebuild the turbo - new bushings, new ring seals, new thrust bearing & washer, new o-rings for under the pedistal & between pedistal and turbo, 4 new bolts to hold the turbine housing to the center section, and a new o-ring for the seal between the compressor backplate and center section (the funky looking one). Other than hard parts like wheels and housings, there's not much more to our turbo.
