I got the CCK and SSHPX installed this weekend. I would like to be able to say installing the CCK was easy, but I’d be a lying SOB. I was a real PITA. Installing the water pump a couple of months ago was easier. I swear Ford must have welded those fuel plugs in. It took almost 4 hours to do the CCK job. A lot of it on the rear plug as it did not want to budge. I got it all connected and when I tested it the short hose at the vibra-lock T blew out, put it back together and really tightened down on it, tested it again and no problems. The SSHPX however went in easy. It took only about 10 minutes no problems.
Started her up checked for leaks and everything looked good. First impressions are that at idle she’s a bit quieter. Not dramatically so, but noticeable. Where it is really dramatic is under acceleration. The cackle is almost completely gone. I know they said you hade to put on about a 100 miles to notice, but I can already hear some noticeable changes. I could even hear an intermittent tapping that I hadn’t heard before. Was a little worried until I checked under the hood and found a wrench I missed picking up. All and all I’m pretty happy with the results.
lol.... I spent the same amount of time, but only because I rounded off the bolt that holds the tensioner pullies and had to do the front with the AC bracket attached. I was lucky, because I had an 8 point 1/4" drive socket that fit right on the plugs and had no problems getting them off. Well, the front took that socket, a universal and a long extension, but it finally came off. I think I had the rear port done in 10 minutes. I was thinking that one was going to be the real PITA -- that or cutting the tubing. I bought one of those really small tubing cutters and it was no problem.
I didn't notice a lot of difference at idle either with the CCK. It was when I took it for a drive that I noticed the most difference! I did the SS HPX before the CCK, though (it was done when I did the WW install). I think it smoothed it out a bit for sure.
I had an eight point 1/4 socket as well. It was great on the front plug, but the rear just rounded out. Damn thing would not move. I sprayed three different penetrating oils with no success. Had to use vice grips after rounding of the plug head. Did not get anywhere with the vice grips until I got pissed and whipped out the hammer and crowbar. Put the crowbar tip against the plug and whacked it with the hammer. I know it probably was not the brightest thing to do, but I had enough of screwing with it only to have it just round of more and more. Three whacks latter and it came out easy with the vice grips.
You know, I had forgotten that small detail when I had to break loose my bolts. I ended up slicing my thumb open on the back side of the fan blade when the wrnech slipped once, so I went straight to the cheater pipe after i taped up my thumb and had no more troubles.
