I've torn into the overhead console on my '99 mule and have determined that none of the electronics on the circuit board are loose, yet my display is uncommonly dim. It has always been very dim but useable until a week ago. I now have to have the transparent plastic "lens" removed in order to read the display at all. When I turn on the headlights, it does get even more dim, so I don't think that wire is the issue. If anyone has any thoughts on this, I'd sure appreciate them. That silly display is actually a functional convenience for me!
If you can post a pic of, or point me to the schmetaic I might could help. In general, I've always had luck talking to the factory techs if you can get a hold of one that knows that unit.
There is a thread that was to bighten the overhead display. I think you cut into one of the wires. It might have been a red or blue. I am not sure as I dont have an overhead console.
Thanks, totin, but I think that wire simply disables the dimming from headlight use. Maybe there's a resitor in the unit gone bad, or one end not making connection anymore or something. I plugged it in, turned the key & pushed on all the components on the circuit board, but nothing made it brighter...
