Yeah, I suppose that could happen. As I said, the Explorer badging is the only thing on the truck besides the F250 badges.
I had read somewhere that the Explorer Trim package can include metallic paint with white stripes. Mine has chrome drip rails and a chrome push bumber with rubber inserts. I just talked with the original owner and found out that the truck is actually a
'76, and the vin decoding revealed that it was made in San Jose and has a 360 with a 2bbl. 4 spd t-18 trans and, I think it's a lowboy, because somebody told me that the highboys have a two piece transfer case and mine is a one piece. Maybe I'm wrong about that. I did learn that the wierd hubs are actually Dualmatics and were used on early jeeps alot. Nice and simple units.
And thanks for the FTE, Photobucket hint..I'll do that. But I just learned that my truck is actually a 1976 ( I ran the Vin decoder) and the factory color is a metallic green. I'll post a picture I found of the factory finish when I get a chance.
Thanks a ton you guys! I'm gonna have fun fixing this rig up.
My Custom Explorer came with lots of goodies, crome drip rails, rear slider, carpet, super sweet plaid cloth and vinyl seat, unique door panels, am/fm cassett, air conditioning, bed topper but no cigar lighter.
Paint is white with a super cool red stripe. Blue Explorer hood ornimant. I will post pictures when it comes back home.
Still need the red transfer (stripe) in case anyone has some idea where I can get one. It was actually several pieces.
1977 Explorer - QUESTION - You mentioned "2-piece transfer case", is that a 'divorced' transfer case ? (short drive line between the trans and transfer case) ?? A 'married' transfer case was mounted directly to the transmission.
Hi George....I was wrong. I finally found a webpage that explains the differences.
My transfer case is in one piece, and it's a standard, lowboy unit, not a 'divorced' case. The way I understand it, the highboys have a divorced transfer case, with a brace that runs from the frame to the bottom of the case. Married, or lowboy units don't have the brace.
